Vol. 1: covers Early Explorers to the Gold Rush
Vol. 2: covers Civil War to the Present day
Important Note: Volume 2 course does require the student book from the Volume 1 of the American History Based writing. You will need to order that separately if you do not already own it.
The Institute for Excellence in Writing has done it again! It has produced an excellent writing curriculum in History-Based Writing Lessons in Structure, Style, Vocabulary and Grammar. This program was created for busy homeschooling parents who love the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) method of teaching but lack the time or confidence to "put it all together." Everything needed to teach consistently and progressively through the IEW syllabus is included: comprehensive instructions for presenting each lesson, all necessary source texts, sample class whiteboards that ensure successful brainstorming, and clear assignments with checklists! Grammar exercises, vocabulary cards, quizzes and games are incorporated to make this a complete English composition course. The best part is that this can combine the time period you are studying with your writing assignments. We used botht he Volume 1 and Volume 2 for our daughter in ninth grade. We chose key assignments from both books to cover our entire year of study in American History. This works seamlessly with the literature books we read at the same time we covered each critical period in American History! At the end of the course, your student will have a personal collection of poems, stories, reports, essays, and research papers that move through major events in early American history. This is the perfect addition to your writing curriculum!
Please note: While this program works extremely well with groups of students, it is important that each student has their own Student Book, it really makes all the difference for each child to have their own Student book. These extra student books can be purchased separately.
